WALK SUMMARY

Walk the cliff-top path from the charming port of Stonehaven to one of the world's most romantic castles, Dunottar, on its rocky promontory into the cold North Sea.

The path up the cliffs is signed from the harbor front. Form the top you get a delightful vie back over Stonehaven.

A tarmacked path leads to the WW1/2 war memorial, a beautiful and moving hilltop "ruined" classical structure with fine views.

The path then reaches the clifftops, over an empty shingle bay, and after a field stretch, gets to Dunottar bay, a big and beautiful bay with the great castle looming romantically on its almost-island at the far end.

Descent and climb to explore the castle - allow plenty of time as it is fascinating. Look out for the often-present heads of seals in the water.

Scrunch back across the bay, perhaps taking in some rockpooling (very charming hermit crabs be here), the clamber back u to the prth and return to Stonehaven for a well-deserved bowl of Cullin Skink.

A popular walk, with bus-loads at Dunottar. But delightful and fascinating nontheless.
