WALK SUMMARY

The magnificently-sited Tubinger Hut enjoys a superb position at the head of the Garneratal valley in another of the Silvretta’s great glacially scraped bowls, below the Swiss border ridge.

The steady walk up the Garneratal to the hut is a good 18km day return walk.Starting from Gaschurm (979m), it is a steady 4-4.5 hr, 1,200m, climb up this beautiful valley. If you have the right car, start from the hamlet of Ganeau (1,420m) above Gaschurn.

The preferable (preferably 2 day) route is to take the cable car to Nova Stoba on the ridge to Gaschurn’s west. Starting at 2,010m, you follow this long and endlessly beautiful ridge to a pass at 2,515m and thence down to the hut at 2,191m in 5-6hrs. (Walko had this planned, but had to abandon. It is high on our wish-list.)

There are various options for the next day, including a return along the ridge or straightforward descent down the valley to Gaschurn, although heading on over the dramatic Hochmaderer Joch (2,505m) to Bielerhöhe makes for an exceptional 2-dayer.
