WALK SUMMARY

This extraordinary gorge is a walking delight. Deep in its bottom is a Roman salt route, which you can follow to the head of the gorge and back in 4 hours or so.

As the visual fireworks start early, the path is heavily used early on, but this eases off reasonably soon.

High on a flank of the gorge is a hermitage built on the foundations of the first Cappucian monastery. Nearby is a secluded 30m waterfall on the Fossa de Rio.

You can combine the gorge and Monte Priora, in 17km/6 hours with 1,100m of climb.

See our Sibillini page for more general and practical information and photos.
