WALK SUMMARY

A very remote, totally unspoilt range north of the lovely and interesting Chamba and Ravi valleys.

Various walking options: cross the 4,966m Chobla La or 5,040m Kugti La or Hampta Pass to the Lahaul valley toward Ladakh. Ascend to Deo Tibba Base Camp or cross the Chandrakani Pass.

A shorter walk is southward to sacred Mani Mahesh Lake, below Kailash Peak (not to be confused with its famous Tibetan namesake). A 40km (3 day) round trip in the Mani Mahesh Range.

Best months: June or July (depending on trek) to mid or late October. Monsoon until September.

Tough, high walking in remote mountains, where altitude can cause problems. Come fully prepared.

“Access usually from the gorgeous Kullu Valley”.
