WALK SUMMARY

A long and demanding trek in wild, remote landscape way off regular trekking routes to this lake in the superb Egrisi range in the south-west of Svaneti.

The best version of this walk starts at Mukhuri in a valley east of the main road to Svaneti, some way north of Zugduli. Walk 26km up a track to the Natipuri hut - or, better, arrange a ride some or all the way (4WD needed further up) as the track is not the most thrilling.

From the hut, it is a 13km hike through superb landscape to the Tobavarchkhili Lake, crossing the 2,750m Okhoje pass in a long climb. Drop to a beautful lake, then head onward over the even higher Eastern Toba Pass (2,900m) to the wonderful Tobavarchkhili Lake. 1,550m total climb on the day.

If you return the way you came and got transport to the Natipuri hut, you can do this walk in 2 days. Or, head on northwards over another high pass and through magical landscape to reach Khaishi on the Mestia road in 42km and with 1,700m of ascent and 3,700m of descent. Ie, demanding but amazing walking.

There is no accommodation, so this is camping only.
