WALK SUMMARY
Sri Lankas’s cultural capital sits by a lovely lake in the foothills of the south-central highlands. It is full of interest, albeit busy, so, with the great walking in the wider area, makes an excellent base for a few days.
Make a delightful wander around the lake and temples in the city centre. Relaxed “walking downtime” after the rigours of your travels.
Head out to the fabulous Botanical Gardens.
Explore the Udawatakelle Sanctuary, a forested hillside north of the lake, for trees, birds and monkeys. Lovely.
Walko stayed out of town at the gorgeous, peaceful Kandy House.
