A popular honeymoon destination – writer Arthur Frommer described it as the most beautiful island in the world – Moorea is also a hiker’s delight.
From white sand beaches, through pineapple plantations and onto jagged volcanic peaks, walks here take in an array of stunning island scenery.
Modern signposts and markers make this one of the better islands for self-guided walking. There are a number of routes, all doable within a day.
Even paradise has its downsides; hiking here can be hot and humid, with numerous biting insects. Come prepared.
