Most of the podocarpus (native conifers) are long gone, as is quite a lot of the animal life, but prepare for glorious birdlife.

This can be demanding walking in high, remote mountains with unpredictable weather, on which you will have to be self-sufficient and where altitude can cause problems. Come prepared.
